A senior official of Indian capital Delhi died today after he suffered severe head injuries while trying to escape from a group of aggressive monkeys, officials said.

Delhi deputy mayor SS Bajwa, 52, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was reading a newspaper on his terrace on Friday when he was attacked by the monkeys, party official Harsh Vardhan said.

Bajwa fell from the terrace while trying to escape his attackers.

The deputy mayor was admitted to the intensive care unit of a Delhi hospital in critical condition and died today, the official said.

The man-monkey conflict has been a long-standing problem in the Indian capital, with the civic authorities failing to control the simians.

The monkey population has grown as they move into the city to try and survive through foraging, because development of suburbs is destroying their natural habitat.

Monkeys can be seen moving freely in some residential localities and are a common sight near the Defence Ministry building in central Delhi.

The simians are treated as descendents of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman and are often fed by devotees at Hindu temples.

Bajwa's house was located near a temple, the Times of India newspaper reported.

Delhi's high court has delivered several strictures to the civic authorities asking them to curb the "monkey menace", but catching and relocating the animals has proven difficult.

There are very few forests left around Delhi's expanding urban perimeter and neighbouring states have been reluctant to accept the animals.

The Delhi government recently hired two monkey catchers from the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Animal rights' activists allege the monkeys that are caught are housed in poor conditions in large cages on the outskirts of the city.

A Thought..

“I see you down there,” Specter says to himself as his only revealed crimson orb fixates on the telescope’s lens, a deep chuckle rumbles up through his throat and finally he cannot hold it in any longer, his lips part and it turns into a bellowing cackle which seems to echo through space. Yes, it is cold up there on the Moon, but soon he will know the inviting warmth of his home planet once more, and we, the humans who are vermin to him, won’t be there to ruin his perfect paradise. Apes will stand there in front of our cages when crowds of them rush in to catch the first glimpses of us on that first day of their reign, yes, they shall stand there and mock us as we have mocked them in their troubled past. Imagine him as he sits up there on his royal throne, his minions pampering him and obeying his every command, and while they are busying themselves with carrying out his orders he only thinks of one thing, the day when man will bow to him. Who knows what master plan he is hatching now?

How long before the monkeys invade? Is the true ape king fact or fiction? Is he really just a video-game antagonist? Can we really be sure that he hasn’t been the brains behind the Ape Escape series? Maybe it was created under his orders, maybe he is tricking us into falling in love with him and his cuteness through his character in the game, a perfect copy of his true self in digital form.

Is this his way of trying to ensure that we will have no choice but to respect and honor him when he takes over our planet? Has anyone else thought this through? Who knows? Mankind is learning of new existences all the time. Why do monkeys attack our kind so much? Is it some sort of instinct or are they being told what to do?

(I'm not saying that I truly believe the monkeys will take over or that Specter is a realistic figure but don't you wonder sometimes?)
